Gr 7-10-Younger fans of The Great British Baking Show will love this charmingly illustrated cookbook from Atherton, a 2019 winner, who sets out to help young people cook vegetarian food and eat green-recipes and food that are good for the planet. Each of the recipes is vegetarian not always is string_containing butgan, so vegans and people with food allergies will need to read the ingredients carefully. The illustrations help with understanding the procedure for each recipe, although there are no photographs to show young cooks exactly what they should be looking for in the texture of doughs and completed products. The selection of the recipes is obviously very British with some food and spices that may be unfamiliar for readers.

About the Author

David Atherton is the author of Bake, Make, and Learn to Cook: Fun and Healthy Recipes for Young Cooks, his debut book. The 2019 winner of The Great British Baking Show and a former international health adviser, he now writes a food column for the Guardian, where he shares some of his fun and healthy recipes. "My family is vegetarian, so I grew up eating food made with lots and lots of colorful vegetables," he says. "My mom—who's a fantastic cook—taught me that vegetarian food is easy to make and tastes delicious." David Atherton lives in London.

Alice Bowsher is the author-illustrator of Curious and Scruff, among other children's books. She works primarily with chunky black ink to create joyful characters, large-scale murals, and illustrated sets. As a vegetarian herself, she is excited to bring her artwork to Bake, Make, and Learn to Cook Vegetarian. She lives in London.
